About Smile Design
Smile design is not a treatment. It is the planning stage that comes before one — the process of working out what should change, by how much, and by what means, before any tooth is touched. The treatment that follows might be whitening, bonding, veneers, a crown, gum contouring, orthodontics, or a combination. Which of those is used is the output of the planning, not the starting point.
The reason this stage exists is that cosmetic dentistry is largely irreversible. Once enamel has been removed to make room for a veneer it cannot be put back. Planning first, and showing you the intended result before anything permanent happens, is what allows you to change your mind while changing your mind is still free.
Our Specialists:
A planned case looks at more than the colour of the teeth. Proportion and the relationship between the teeth and the lips, where the gum line sits and whether it is even, the position of the midline, how much tooth shows when you speak and when you smile, the shape and texture appropriate to your face, and whether the bite can support the proposed changes without wearing or chipping them. Health comes before appearance in every case: decay, gum disease and bite problems are addressed first.

What the process usually involves. Records are taken — photographs, radiographs, a scan or impressions, and often video of you speaking and smiling, because a smile is not a still image. From those, a proposed design is worked out and shown to you, commonly as a digital preview and often as a physical mock-up placed directly over your own teeth so you can see the shape and length in your own face. You approve, adjust, or reject it. Only once the design is agreed does any preparation begin, and the approved design becomes the reference the laboratory works to.
What to expect afterwards. A preview is a guide, not a photograph of the future — the final result is constrained by what your teeth, gums and bite allow, and a good clinician will tell you where the design has to give way to those limits. Treatments have different lifespans and different maintenance needs, and you should know both before choosing. Where the design relies on new restorations, protecting them matters: if you clench or grind, a night guard is part of the plan, not an afterthought.
Coming from outside Egypt? The planning stage can begin remotely. Send photographs and recent radiographs and we can give an initial opinion on what is realistic and roughly what it would involve, before you commit to travel. The design is then confirmed in person, because shade, proportion and how the teeth sit against your lips cannot be settled reliably from photographs.
We will say plainly when a case does not need extensive work. Sometimes the honest answer to a smile concern is whitening and a single bonded repair, not ten veneers, and being told that is a better outcome than being sold a plan.
