About Clear Aligners

Clear aligners are a series of transparent, custom-made trays that move teeth in small increments. Each tray is shaped slightly differently from the position your teeth are in when you start wearing it, and that difference is what applies the force. You work through the series in order, changing trays at set intervals, until the planned sequence is complete.

The appeal is obvious: they are far less visible than brackets and wires, and they come out for eating and brushing. The thing that is less obvious, and matters far more, is that they only work while they are in your mouth. Aligners need to be worn around 20 to 22 hours a day. A patient who takes them out at work, forgets them at meals or leaves them out overnight will not reach the planned result, and the treatment falls behind the sequence. This is the single largest difference between aligners and fixed braces, and it is worth being honest with yourself about before choosing.

Orthodontics is the clinic’s core specialty, and aligner cases are planned by an orthodontist rather than treated as a mail-order product. That matters because the plan is a clinical judgement: which movements the trays can deliver, where small tooth-coloured attachments need to be bonded so a tray has something to grip, whether space needs creating, and at what point progress should be reassessed.

What the process usually involves. Assessment comes first — photographs, radiographs, and a scan or impressions of your teeth. From those records a treatment plan and the aligner sequence are produced, and you are shown what the intended outcome is before treatment starts. Attachments are bonded where they are needed, the first trays are fitted, and you are given clear instructions on wear and tray changes. Review appointments are usually fewer and shorter than with fixed braces, with trays issued in batches.

What to expect afterwards. Each new tray feels tight for a day or two — that pressure is the treatment working. Speech can be slightly affected for the first week. Nothing except water should be drunk with the trays in, and you must brush before putting them back. When the sequence is complete, retainers are not optional: teeth drift back towards where they started unless they are retained, and almost every case of relapse is a retainer problem rather than a treatment problem.

Coming from outside Egypt? Aligner treatment adapts to distance better than most orthodontics, because trays can be issued in batches and reviews can be spaced out. It still needs an in-person assessment to begin, bonded attachments, and proper review at intervals — so plan for more than one visit, and discuss the schedule with us before booking travel.

Aligners are not right for every case. Some rotations, root movements and bite corrections are more predictably achieved with fixed appliances, and a case that needs brackets does not become suitable for trays because the patient prefers them.
