When most or all of the teeth in an arch are missing or beyond saving, the aim changes from replacing individual teeth to rebuilding the whole arch. That does not mean one implant per tooth. A carefully positioned small number of implants — commonly four to six in an arch — can carry a fixed bridge spanning every tooth position, because the load is shared across the group rather than resting on each one separately.

There are two broad routes. A fixed full-arch bridge stays in permanently and is cleaned in the mouth. An implant-retained overdenture clips onto implants and is taken out for cleaning; it costs less, usually needs fewer implants, and solves the problem most lower-denture wearers actually have, which is a denture that will not stay still. Neither is automatically better. Which suits you depends on bone volume, your bite, what you want to be able to eat, how much cleaning you are willing to do, and how the result needs to support your lip and cheek.

Full-arch treatment sits at the point where surgery and restorative dentistry meet, and it is planned as one case from the start: where the implants go is decided by where the teeth need to end up, not the other way round. Planning is done from a three-dimensional scan, and the surgical and restorative stages are worked out together before anything begins.

What the process usually involves. Assessment comes first: a full examination, a CBCT scan, an assessment of your bite and facial proportions, and a review of your medical history. Any remaining hopeless teeth are removed, implants are placed in the planned positions, and a provisional set of teeth is fitted so you are not without teeth. After the healing and integration period, the final bridge or overdenture is made and fitted. The overall course is normally measured in months, and longer where grafting is needed.

What to expect afterwards. Adapting to a full arch takes a few weeks — speech and eating both settle. Maintenance is not optional: fixed full-arch bridges need daily cleaning underneath with interdental brushes or an irrigator, and regular professional review, because the gum and bone around implants can become inflamed exactly as they do around teeth. Overdentures need their attachments checked and the clips replaced periodically as they wear.

Coming from outside Egypt? Full-arch treatment cannot be completed in one short trip. It is staged, and it needs review appointments between stages.
